FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What are the ages of the clients in the program? Do you treat teenagers?
We serve women and men 18 years of age and older in our adult program. We also have a teen program for females and males 13-17.
What is the length of stay in the program?
The basic Intensive Outpatient Program is 10 weeks. The adult program meets from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and the teen program meets from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Both programs are 4 days a week, Monday through Thursday. Some clients will stay longer than 10 weeks; length of stay is determined during the treatment planning phase after the initial intake evaluation.
How often do I meet with the Dietitian?
You will see the dietitian once a week. Since each treatment plan is individualized, you can choose to meet with the dietitian more often if needed as identified in your treatment plan. There are also a weekly Nutrition class led by the dietitian.
What is the Dietary Program like? Do you allow for vegetarian diets and food allergies?
The Dietary Staff works individually with each client to design a program to fit your lifestyle. We also seek to accommodate food allergies, when your doctor documents them. We understand that FOOD is a central issue with all of our clients, and from the first day they start the program they will be planning, shopping for and preparing some meals, with the supervision of the Dietary Staff. Other meals will be provided. We have restaurant outings once or twice a month to help the client desensitize around eating in public settings.
We do provide vegetarian options for meals but don’t accommodate vegan or other raw food options.
How are my family members, spouse and support systems involved in my treatment plan?
We offer a weekly multi-family group, to address issues related to the eating disorder dynamics in the family and in your significant relationships. Our goal is to help everyone find more positive ways to support the client’s recovery, as well as build on family communication skills. Individual family and/or couple sessions are also available when needed and are billed separately.
The clients attend with their family or loved ones and the basic program is education about the eating disorder and the course of treatment as well as providing support to all members as they move together on the path of recovery.
How do I know if this is the right program for me? Who do you serve?
The program is designed currently to treat women and men who are wanting additional support in their overall recovery program. Sometimes these are clients who are either returning from inpatient or residential treatment programs, and they are looking for a “Step-down” component to help with the transition back into their lives here at home.
Sometimes they are clients who are seeking an adjunct to their current outpatient treatment, and they are seeking more structure and support, without upsetting their work, family or school settings. These are clients who are medically stable, but still struggling with the behaviors and the recovery process.
Our overall goal is to provide an option for clients who need more support and education, but can’t afford or don’t want to attend an inpatient program or they can’t leave the area because of work, school or family obligations.
Does insurance cover this program?
Most insurance companies will cover some or all of the program. We advise each client to research their coverage prior to the intake evaluation, we are here to help with that aspect. Give us a call and we will research your benefits for you. We can also provide super-bills for submission to your insurance. It is important to understand that the client is fully responsible for all charges not covered under insurance policies.
